THE WORST PARTS OF EXPAT LIFE | The Not-so-Perfect Truth on Being An Expat

It's the place of dreams for so many people and Paris is often portrayed as being so picture perfect on social media. But as I say in the video, it's not all roses and THAT'S OKAY. ARE FRENCH PEOPLE RUDE?! Exploring the stereotype in depth

15:18
One of the biggest stereotypes about the French is that they are oh SO rude. This video explores this stereotype, hopefully answering the often-searched questions "why are the French so rude" or "why are Parisians so rude?"! In exploring different aspects of French Culture, I hope to provide insights from the outside looking in and perhaps even debunk some of the biggest myths and stereotypes about French people! Culture is a funny thing and it's often the perceptions of the French and the stereotypes of the French that already have you expecting a certain reality. Let's try to view the topic of french rudeness or the stereotypical rude French waiter from another point of view! If you are visiting Paris for the first time or visiting France and want to avoid French culture then I know you will love my other videos! I talk about French culture tips, visiting France, French stereotypes vs the reality and so much more based on my experience of being an expat in France! --------------------------------- [French/English SUBTITLES //SOUS-TITRE en français/anglais] Are you a Not Even French super fan? 10 Things We LOVE About France: The French do it Better than the US/NZ!

10:57
Kate and I are back to share the 10 things we love about life in France! Life in Paris as an expat has its ups and downs, but there are and always will be things that France does better than the US or NZ! For example, Rosie, who has been living in France as a foreigner for more than 4 years now, adores the TGV and the paid leave. And when it comes to living in France vs USA, there are some things that France does best in the world, like the French social security system which changed Kate's life whilst living in France as an American. 3 Things I Find Bizarre About The French | Still don't understand | Expat in France

11:49
This video explores 3 things that I still find bizarre about French people. It's those French culture shocks that I haven't figured out yet - I still don't understand everything about the French! The first is the French unhappiness paradox. Why do the French complain all the time? Why are they so pessimistic? What's with the negative outlook? The second is about the smoking. Why DO so many French people smoke? And from such a young age! The third is about money - spending it and talking about it! These are the lesser known and/or lesser talked about French stereotypes. If you can help this Expat in France to understand more, please do so! I look forward to hearing from you down below! P.S. SORRY for the lighting in this video!! I will buy proper lighting soon, am saving up for it! Are you a Not Even French super fan? New Zealand People & Culture: Kiwi Attitudes | Understanding People From New Zealand!

11:17
Are New Zealanders friendly? What are New Zealanders really like? How do New Zealand people think? Many people plan to travel to NZ or even live there long term because they know it's a beautiful country, but they ask themselves "What are the people from New Zealand like?" IMPORTANT: I didn't mention Abel Tasman, the Dutch Explorer who was the first European to discover NZ in the 1600s, because he only visited briefly. James Cook (English) was the first voyager who landed in 1769 with a ship full of people who intended to immigrate and live there. This kiwi expat talks you thought some of the main facets of New Zealand culture and customs and the things that shape the attitudes of Kiwi people. By understanding things like Tall Poppy Syndrome and Do it Yourself, you start to understand some fundamental New Zealand culture values. PARIS DAY TRIP TO FONTAINEBLEAU | One of the best day trips from Paris 👌

04:55
Check out more of our drone shots here: https://bit.ly/2SO2Zw3 Come explore Fontainebleau township, Fontainebleau Castle and Forest with me on a day trip away from Paris! Short but oh-so sweet! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 📷See more of my daily life on Instagram: _notevenfrench 🐸JOIN THE FRANCOPHILES on Patreon: https://bit.ly/2HAC3uG 💎SHOP NOW at Francophile Designs: https://rdbl.co/2qxn6Ce ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How do you get there? If you want to get to Fontainebleau from Paris by public transport, take a Transilien train from Gare de Lyon heading towards Migennes, Montargis or Montereau. You want to get off at Fontainebleau-Avon (normally the first, second or third stop), and the journey should take around 40 minutes. Trains run between every 20 and 90 minutes and the ticket costs 8.85€ each way, unless you have a Navigo or five-zone Paris Visite card. Once at the station, you can head directly into the forest or take Bus 1 in the direction of Les Lilas to the Château de Fontainebleau, which will take about 15 minutes. You can also walk the three kilometers into the town in under 40 minutes. Fresh air fills your lungs on arriving in the classy town of Fontainebleau. It’s enveloped by the 280 sq km Forêt de Fontainebleau, which is as big a playground today as it was in the 16th century, with superb walking and rock-climbing opportunities. Situated 68km southeast of Paris, the town grew up around its magnificent château, one of the most beautifully decorated and furnished in France. What is there to see? The Château de Fontainebleau is, of course, at the top of most people’s list of things to see in this town 55 km southeast of Paris. Its 1,500 rooms, including Marie Antoinette’s Turkish boudoir and Napoleon III’s lavish theater, have been preserved or immaculately restored in recent years. Set within 130 acres of formal gardens and parkland, this UNESCO World Heritage Site lives up to and exceeds expectations. It is a monument depicting the whole of French culture in (relative) miniature. The palace and the town are surrounded by the Forêt de Fontainebleau. The 25,000 hectares of woodland contain 1,600 km of walking trails, great spots for bouldering, hiking and horse riding, and amazing biodiversity, including its own endemic tree species. If it’s your kind of thing, you can also visit the grave of Katherine Mansfield — the prominent modernist short story writer from New Zealand — in the local cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIDEO NOTES ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FREE STUFF AirBnB travel credit (25€ or equivalent): http://bit.ly/2yTkCAH LIFE IN FRANCE BOOKS * Best French Grammar book that I've found: http://amzn.to/2g511py * Best on French parenting, Bringing up bébé: http://amzn.to/2xORnz1 * Best on multicultural workplaces: http://amzn.to/2fEU9hQ * Favourite fiction read, Almost French: http://amzn.to/2xOdbKZ MY CAMERA: https://amzn.to/2H0m3oF MY DRONE: https://amzn.to/2rhIzP6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can join me, Rosie, for even more adventures on Not Even French! I'm not talking here about baguettes, croissants and people watching - though I could - but more fundamental mindset shifts that have occurred for me as an expat living in France and the ways in which it has pushed me to become a better person. Major life lesson 1 2:19 - live in the moment The French aren't in any major rush to get through life. French people enjoy the moment and live for experiences and connection with others. Moreover, they prioritise this - whether that be at the individual level or the state level. Major life less 2 - less consumerism, more experiences 5:13 French people, in general, would prefer decent amounts of paid annual leave to more money. If you ask a French person if they could earn 20 000 more per year but only have 2 weeks holidays, most would say NON MERCI. There is something to learn from appreciating the most simple things in life and prioritising time with family and less, high quality things than working tirelessly for that big fat pay check. Major life lesson 3 - getting outside of the comfort zone 8:10 This isn't unique to France but my immersion into a new culture, new language, new mindset.. well! I learned so much by getting out of my comfort zone. Major life lesson 4 - At ease with debating, expressing my convictions 9:44 Debate, discussion and challenging each other is a hallmark of the French culture. At first, I thought French people were super aggressive and now I join in :) Major life lesson 5 - More eco friendly 10:49 Being more conscious for our planet/mother earth! DO FRENCH PEOPLE CHEAT MORE? Infidelity, Mistresses & Adultery in France

09:59
Let's explore the cliché that French people cheat more, have mistresses, are in mostly open relationships and will forgive a cheater! Is adultery acceptable in France? You may not know it if you're French, but one of the clichés about you is that you're quite likely to cheat on monogamous, romantic partners and that basically every French man has a mistress. So how much of that it is true? Do French people have a different opinion on infidelity or what is means to be unfaithful? Why are the French the nation the most likely to forgive a cheater? In this video I explore the concept of adultery, walking through some infidelity in France statistics, ranking them on a global scale and then discussing some pertinent cultural attitudes and beliefs in France which may explain where the cliché comes from about their "loose" morals (or not) on this topic. It just takes a quick search on Google to find people looking for answers to questions such as 'are French monogamous' 'What is the French view on monogamy' 'french view on monogamy' 'Why do french people accept men cheating?' and more. Let's discuss down below love in the French culture, the French culture in marriage, the French culture in relationships and more. Watch the whole way through and you may be left thinking that perhaps relationships in France are not so different after all..
