A much talked-about interview, not seen since its initial NBC broadcast... Golden Age porn star William Margold generated considerable controversy in January of 1981, telling journalist Rona Barrett, in an interview aired during the initial broadcast of NBC's Tomorrow Coast-to-Coast with Tom Snyder, that he would consider performing a sex scene with his own daughter. When asked if he would allow his daughter to enter the porn business, Margold replied, "Not until she's eighteen. And then I might even work with her myself." ("Work with her" being a well-known porn euphemism for on-screen sex.) Ever the provocateur, Margold made similar statements on at least two previous occasions -- once, in an interview for Playboy magazine, and again during the taping of the adult film documentary, What Would Your Mother Say? In the wake of the Barrett controversy, Margold ran an advertisement in Variety, apologizing for the comments. Despite their adversarial on-camera relationship, Barrett and Margold enjoyed similar professional backgrounds, both having worked as mainstream film reviewers prior to Margold's entrance to X. (In fact, Margold's film reviews were often quoted alongside Barrett and Rex Reed in major movie ads of the late Sixties and early Seventies.)

After Dark was a British late-night live discussion programme broadcast on Channel 4 television between 1987 and 1997, and on the BBC in 2003. Roly Keating of the BBC described it as "one of the great television talk formats of all time," and the Daily Mail as "the most intelligent, thought-provoking and interesting programme ever to have been on television." Reminiscent of David Susskind's US-based "Open End" series, "After Dark" was broadcast live, with no scheduled end time. The series was considered to be a groundbreaking reinvention of the discussion programme format. Bill Margold and "Pornography" (Airdate: 6/25/88) Of his appearance on "After Dark," The Guardian wrote: "Margold's breezy definition of hard core - "up, in, out, off" - belies his ambition to give the public genuine artistic storylines.... I was waiting for someone, preferably a woman, to hang one on big, burly Papa Bear, who is about the most arrogant, bullying, bulldozer loudmouth this sleep-cheating series has so far brought us." All editions of After Dark ended with music, more or less related to the subject of the week. The Evening Standard noted: "This intelligent (mostly), thought-provoking discussion was brought to an end by the song 'It's illegal, it's immoral, or it makes you fat'."
