Welcome back to another tutorial on Java JDBC. In this video, we’ll learn how to use stored procedures. We’ll first define what stored procedures are, next we’ll use callable statements. Then we’ll learn how to pass parameters to stored procedures. I’ll actually break this up over 4 different videos. I’ll show each parameter type in a separate video, so in this section we’ll cover IN parameters and then in the follow on sections, I’ll cover IN OUT, OUT and also result sets. Please stay tuned and check out the following videos for this. Time - 00:39 A stored procedure is a group of SQL statements that perform a particular task. They are normally created by a DBA. The stored procedures are created in a SQL language that supported by the native database. Each database has its own language. For example, MySQL has stored procedures language, Oracle uses PL/SQL and Microsoft SQL Server uses Transact SQL. Finally, the stored procedures can also have any combination of input and output parameters. For this tutorial, we’ll use the following table employees. The table has sample data for testing. I have a SQL zip file that’s you can download. It will create the table, add sample data and also set up the stored procedures. You can download it from the link below. Time - 01:22 All right, let’s go and switch over to the MySQL workbench and what I’m going to do is open up that SQL file and run it. This is our JDBC stored procedures directory. I have a subdirectory called SQL, and has this file, table set up that SQL. I’ll open this file, what this file does it basically creates a table as we see here and then it goes through and inserts a lot of sample data. Then, it also goes through and creates all of the stored procedures that we need for this tutorial, right. I’ll just go ahead and select execute and this will run and so now should I have a new table over here called employees and this table also has a collection or this database has a collection of stored procedures for this tutorial series, so get count employees, greet and increase salaries and we’ll go through all these stored procedures during the actual tutorial itself. Time - 02:24 In JDBC, you make use of callable statements to make a call to the stored procedures. There is a special syntax to call stored procedures. You make use of curly braces inside of the string. You also make use of the JDBC keyword call and that’s followed by the name of the stored procedure. In this example, we’re not passing any params, so we’ll just use the open and closed parentheses. Finally, we execute the stored procedure. Let’s talk about the parameters on the next slide. The JDBC API support different types of parameters. You can make use of the IN parameter, INOUT and also the OUT. The stored procedures can also return a result set, during the code examples in this video, I’ll show you how to register different parameters types and also values. Time - 03:09 Let’s start with IN parameters. For this parameter, we’re only passing an input parameter and the parameter is read-only. Our DBA has created a stored procedure on the database. This stored procedure will increase the salary for everyone in the department, which is kind of cool. The procedure takes two parameters. The first parameter is the department name. The second parameter is the increase amount. For example, we can call this stored procedure and increase the salaries of employees in the engineering department by $10,000. In terms of Java coding, we need to make a call to the stored procedure. First, we prepare a callable statement, since the stored procedure takes two parameters, we’ll make use of our question mark place orders for the parameters. [snip] ... See Transcripts tab

In this video, we will learn how to use stored procedures. Time - 00:11 In this video, we're going to focus on stored procedures that return result sets. Check out my other videos that covered different types of parameters, such as IN, and INOUT. Time - 00:22 For this tutorial we will use the following table, employees. The table has a sample data for testing. I havea a SQL zip file that you can download, it'll create the table, add sample data and also set up the stored procedures. You can download it from the link below. Time - 00:39 We'll call a stored procedure that returns a result set for us to process. Our DBA created a stored procedure called "Get Employees for Department." The first parameters the department main, and the stored procedure will return the results as a result set. Time - 00:55 To call the stored procedure, we prepared columns before. Using a question mark as a parameter place holder. We set the first input parameter as the name of the department. Then we execute the stored procedure. Once the execution is complete, then we can retrieve the result set by calling, get result set. Time - 01:15 Okay, so let's switch Eclipse and see this in action. I have a sample Java program called, Get Employees for Department. Let's walk through the code. The first thing we'll do is get a connection to the database. We'll also set up our variables for the department name. Then I'll prepare a call to the stored procedure. I'll make use of the question mark as a parameter place holder. Then I'll set the parameter value. I will actually call the stored procedure. Then I will actually retrieve the result set from the stored procedure. Now, I'll call a helper method that will actually display the result set. Time - 01:53 Now, let's go ahead and run the application. As we can see we make a call to the stored procedure, we pass in the department for engineering, we get the results, we call our helper method and it displays the results. Which looks pretty good. Let's go ahead and verify this in our SQL tool. Time - 02:17 I'll move over to the tool, I have this query, select * from employees where department equals engineering. I will execute and I get four results. This matches with the information that we have from the Java program. This looks very good, so we're successful. Time - 02:35 That wraps up our discussion on stored procedures using result sets. We were successful in calling a stored procedure and passing IN parameters. In this video, we will learn how to use stored procedures. Time - 00:11 In this video, we're going to focus on INOUT parameters. I also have another collection of videos that cover the other parameter types. Please check those out in the playlist. Time - 00:22 For this tutorial we will use the following table employees. The table has sample data for testing. I have a SQL zip file that you can download. It will create the table, add sample data and also set up the stored procedures. You can download it from the link below. Time - 00:38 Let's learn about INOUT parameters. We will pass in a parameter. The stored procedure will read the parameter and update it with a value. In this example, our DBA created a stored procedure called, "Greet the Department." It's a very simple example. It simply reads the parameter name for the department. All the stored procedure will do is create a new stream based on the department name. It will have the stream, "Hello to the awesome Department Team" and will plug in the value of team. That's it. We could get really fancy and do some sequel calls for the database but for now let's keep it simple. Time - 01:12 To use INOUT parameters, we've prepared the callers before. We use the question mark as a parameter placeholder. Then we register the parameter as an OUT parameter, this supports INOUT. We also specify the type. Since we are passing in a stream we make use of types.varchar. The types interfaces the file in the Java and the SQL package. Then we execute the stored procedure. Once the execution is complete, then we can get the value of the OUT parameter. Time - 01:39 In this case, we retrieve it based on the parameter position. Remember that parameters are one based. This will give us the output from the stored procedure and we display it accordingly. Time - 01:50 Let's switch over to Eclipse and see this in action. I have a simple Java program called, "GreetTheDepartment." Now, let's walk through the code. First, we get a connection to the database. Then we set up a variable for the department name. Then we prepare a callable statements to the stored procedure, with a question mark for the place holder. Then we register the parameter as an OUT parameter. Remember, the OUT parameter here also handles INOUT. Then we set the department name. Next we execute the statement, and it performs the back end update. Finally, we retrieve the value of the OUT parameter and display the result. Time - 02:27 Okay, let me run the application and check the output. Notice we call the stored procedure. We pass in the department name with "Engineering". Then it displays the result, "Hello to the awesome Engineering Team." This is the result of that OUT parameter that came back from the stored procedure. The stored procedure performed as desired. Good job. Time - 02:51 That wraps up our discussion on stored procedures using INOUT parameters. We were successful in calling the stored procedure and passing in those parameters. Stay tune for the next video. I'm going to show more examples of using stored procedures with parameters. Please subscribe to our channel to view more videos on Java. 2017-11 Java Stored Procedures In PostgreSQL

26:06
A talk from Dave Cramer about Java-based stored procedures in PostgreSQL. PL/JVM is a procedural language for PostgreSQL which uses RPC to call java objects inside a user program. There is a Netty pipeline to implement the protocol. PL/JVM came from PL/J which was written back in 2004 and died on the vine. Since then the PL/J code was used to implement PL/container which allows for trusted Python, and R running in containers. PL/JVM uses the C code from PL/container to implement RPC into a JVM based process. This is still in the development phase and I have some unanswered questions such as: How to do class separation? How to deal with auto boxing of methods? Whether to provide this as a library or a complete product. What I'd like to do is explain how it works and some of the issues and open it up for discussion. About the speaker Dave Cramer has been a major contributor to PostgreSQL since 1999, Maintainer for PostgreSQL JDBC. Most recently working for Pivotal, then OpenSCG on Greenplum MPP database.

This video covers OUT parameters. --- Transcript Time - 00:00 Hi, this is Chad (Shod) at luv2code.com. Welcome back to another tutorial on Java JDBC. In this video, we will learn how to use store procedures. In this video we're covering OUT parameters. Please check on our other videos that cover the other parameter types, such as IN, INOUT and Returning a result set. Time - 00:21 For this tutorial, we will use the following table, employees. The table has sample data for testing. I have a SQL zip file that you can download. It'll create the table, add sample data and also set up the store procedures. You can download it from the link below. Time - 00:38 Let's learn about OUT parameters. We will call a stored procedure and it will return an output parameter for us. Our DBA created a store procedure called Get Count for department. It is a very simple example that reads the parameter for the department name. The store procedure will return the number of employees in a given department. Time - 00:58 The first parameter is the department name. The second parameter is the output for the count. This is a contrived example. We could do the same thing with a regular SQL statement, but here we're trying to demonstrate out parameters with store procedures. You could develop a more advanced store procedure that could return different types of data. Time - 01:14 To use OUT parameters, we prepare the callers before, using a question mark as a parameter place holder. We set the first input parameter as the name of the department. Next, we register the second parameter as an OUT parameter, since the store procedure will return the OUT parameter as an int, we make use of types.dot integer. Time - 01:33 The types interface is defined in the JAVA.SQL package. Then, we execute the store procedure. Once the execution is complete, then we get the value of the OUT parameter. In this case, we retrieve it based on the parameter position, which is position two. Remember that parameters are one based. This will give us the output from the stored procedure. Time - 01:54 Let's switch over to Eclipse and see this in action. I have a very simple JAVA program called GetCountForDepartment. Let's walk through the code. First thing I'll do is get a connection to the database, set up a variable for the actual department name. Then, I'll prepare a call for the stored procedure, get count for department. I'll make use of two parameter place holders. Time - 02:17 I'll set the first parameter to be the actual name of the department. I'll register the second parameter as an OUT parameter of type integer. Then, I'll execute the stored procedure. Once the procedure's complete, then I'll get the value of the OUT parameter and I'll retrieve position two. Then, I'll simply display the output to the screen. Time - 02:42 All right. Let's go ahead and run the application. Do a right click. I'll just do a run as Java application. That'll give me the output. We can see that we actually called the stored procedure for engineering and it returns the value of four. This means that there are four employees in the engineering department. I can verify this in my SQL editor tool. Time - 03:10 I can make use of a select statement. Select * for engineering. Execute and it gives me the result of four employees, so we know that the stored procedure's working as desire. Time - 03:24 Well, that wraps up our discussion on stored procedures using OUT parameters. We were successful in calling stored procedures and retrieving parameter values. Stay tuned for the next video. I will show more examples of using stored procedures and parameters. Please subscribe to our channel to view more videos on JAVA. Click thumps up to like our video. JDBC Tutorial for Beginners #11 : Calling Stored Procedures with CallableStatements

07:06
This video explains how to invoke Stored Procedures using the interface java.sql.CallableStatement. A stored procedure is a subroutine available to applications that access a relational database management system . Such procedures are stored in the database data dictionary. Callable statements allows to invoke these stored procedures. CallableStatements created using prepareCall(String call) from java.sql.Connection. The parameter is of the following form = {call function_name} = This tutorial series covers following topics ■ Connecting Java Program to MySQL Database ■ Inserting data into database ■ Fetching data from database ■ Updating an entry in database ■ Deleting an entry from database ■ Creating a table programmatically ■ Using PreparedStatements ■ Display database contents in JTable ■ Calling stored procedures ■ JDBC Batch operations - Genuine Coder http://www.genuinecoder.com/

PL/SQL tutorial : Trigger in Oracle Database 11g Complete guide

26:21
Learn in depth about trigger in oracle database 11g, and usage of trigger in Database, different types of trigger with syntax for various events along with writing advance trigger and capturing all details regarding authentication. Explained Instead of trigger. Trigger in Oracle, Trigger in PL/SQL, Oracle Trigger, PL/SQL Trigger, What is Trigger in pl/sql, How to use Trigger in pl/sql, How to write a Trigger in oracle, How to design Trigger in pl/sql, DDL trigger, DML trigger, Instead of trigger, Compound trigger, Logon trigger, Introduction to Triggers You can write triggers that fire whenever one of the following operations occurs: DML statements (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) on a particular table or view, issued by any user DDL statements (CREATE or ALTER primarily) issued either by a particular schema/user or by any schema/user in the database Database events, such as logon/logoff, errors, or startup/shutdown, also issued either by a particular schema/user or by any schema/user in the database Triggers are similar to stored procedures. A trigger stored in the database can include SQL and PL/SQL or Java statements to run as a unit and can invoke stored procedures. However, procedures and triggers differ in the way that they are invoked. A procedure is explicitly run by a user, application, or trigger. Triggers are implicitly fired by Oracle when a triggering event occurs, no matter which user is connected or which application is being used. How Triggers Are Used Triggers supplement the standard capabilities of Oracle to provide a highly customized database management system. For example, a trigger can restrict DML operations against a table to those issued during regular business hours. You can also use triggers to: Automatically generate derived column values Prevent invalid transactions Enforce complex security authorizations Enforce referential integrity across nodes in a distributed database Enforce complex business rules Provide transparent event logging Provide auditing Maintain synchronous table replicates Gather statistics on table access Modify table data when DML statements are issued against views Publish information about database events, user events, and SQL statements to subscribing applications Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aditya-kumar-roy-b3673368/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SpecializeAutomation/

Dynamic SQL in Stored Procedure

09:32
In this video we will discuss, using dynamic sql in a stored procedure and it's implications from sql injection perspective. We will discuss performance implications of using dynamic sql in a stored procedure in a later video. Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-in-stored-procedure.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-in-stored-procedure_11.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All SQL Server Tutorial Videos https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL08903FB7ACA1C2FB All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists Consider the following stored procedure "spSearchEmployees". We implemented this procedure in Part 139 of SQL Server tutorial. This stored procedure does not have any dynamic sql in it. It is all static sql and is immune to sql injection. Create Procedure spSearchEmployees @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Select * from Employees where (FirstName = @FirstName OR @FirstName IS NULL) AND (LastName = @LastName OR @LastName IS NULL) AND (Gender = @Gender OR @Gender IS NULL) AND (Salary = @Salary OR @Salary IS NULL) End Go Whether you are creating your dynamic sql queries in a client application like ASP.NET web application or in a stored procedure, you should never ever concatenate user input values. Instead you should be using parameters. Notice in the following example, we are creating dynamic sql queries by concatenating parameter values, instead of using parameterized queries. This stored procedure is prone to SQL injection. Let's prove this by creating a "Search Page" that calls this procedure. Create Procedure spSearchEmployeesBadDynamicSQL @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from Employees where 1 = 1' if(@FirstName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and FirstName=''' + @FirstName + '''' if(@LastName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and LastName=''' + @LastName + '''' if(@Gender is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and Gender=''' + @Gender + '''' if(@Salary is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and Salary=''' + @Salary + '''' Execute sp_executesql @sql End Go Add a Web Page to the project that we have been working with in our previous video. Name it "DynamicSQLInStoredProcedure.aspx". Copy and paste the HTML and code available on my blog at the following link http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2017/04/dynamic-sql-in-stored-procedure.html At this point, run the application and type the following text in the "Firsname" text and click "Search" button. Notice "SalesDB" database is dropped. Our application is prone to SQL injection as we have implemented dynamic sql in our stored procedure by concatenating strings instead of using parameters. ' Drop database SalesDB -- In the following stored procedure we have implemented dynamic sql by using parameters, so this is not prone to sql injecttion. This is an example for good dynamic sql implementation. Create Procedure spSearchEmployeesGoodDynamicSQL @FirstName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @LastName nvarchar(100) = NULL, @Gender nvarchar(50) = NULL, @Salary int = NULL As Begin Declare @sql nvarchar(max) Declare @sqlParams nvarchar(max) Set @sql = 'Select * from Employees where 1 = 1' if(@FirstName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@LastName is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@Gender is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' if(@Salary is not null) Set @sql = @sql + ' and [email protected]' Execute sp_executesql @sql, N'@FN nvarchar(50), @LN nvarchar(50), @Gen nvarchar(50), @sal int', @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected] End Go On the code-behind page, use stored procedure spSearchEmployeesGoodDynamicSQL instead of spSearchEmployeesBadDynamicSQL. We do not have to change any other code. At this point run the application one more time and type the following text in the "Firstname" textbox and click the "Search" button. ' Drop database SalesDB -- Notice "SalesDB" database is not dropped, So in this case our application is not succeptible to SQL injection attack. Summary : Whether you are creating dynamic sql in a client application (like a web application) or in a stored procedure always use parameters instead of concatnating strings. Using parameters to create dynamic sql statements prevents sql injection.
