UK Branding - Famous Examples
The way a company can portray itself through its brand is the most important part of advertising a product. For every success a company like John Lewis will have with their ad campaigns at Christmas, there will be other companies that miss out. A solid brand can do wonders for a product and in this video I've compiled a few examples of big brands from the UK (and Ireland) of companies which have a very strong brand at their core. The brands featured are: -Hovis and their iconic bike ad from 1973; one of the most famous ads of all time which is known for being instantly memorable. -Marmite and their Zippy ad, showcasing the power of nostalgia with two British powerhouses (the product and a TV classic) -Stella Artois and their cinema style ads. I've included this example as a way of showing how a brand can add some class to their product, while still missing a mark. This very famous ad is something I remember seeing in the cinema as a kid. But like many, I presumed Stella was a French drink due to the nature of the advertisiing, and not actually Belgian. -Cadburys and their iconic purple packaging. (this short clip was created by creative agency Pearlfisher, who are one of the biggest design agencies in the UK: http://www.pearlfisher.com/studios/design/ - Guinness, the Irish example with one of the best ads of all time. This ad was so well received that it was voted the best ad of all time in a Channel 4 poll. Simply named "Horses and Surfers", it doesn't tell you anything about Guinness at all, but by using the black and white colour associated with the drink, it does more on a subconscious level than a simple ad of someone sitting a bar could.

EXAMPLES of Branding & Direct Response, spot the differences
Marketing Strategist, Conrad Flynn of http://conradflynn.com and http://concurnewmedia.com walks through examples of branding ads vs direct response ads. BRANDING is used to educate people and instruct their future behavior. This creates future sales by establishing "brand equity". DIRECT RESPONSE is used to prompt people to take an immediate action. This creates immediate sales by making a compelling offer with a CTA (Call To Action). This is an excerpt of a talk that was given to marketing & business students in September of 2012 during Lehigh Carbon Community College's 4th Annual Entrepreneur Week. Personal Branding Celebrity Myth
Why does every personal branding evangelist talk about a major celebrity when they preach on building a personal brand? To begin with the top tier celebrity does not have a personal brand. Celebrities have well crafted personal images. The top tier celebrities like Oprah, Donald Trump, Tiger Woods (before the Viagra) arent building a personal brand. They are building a personal based image that can be leveraged to sell, endorse, and profit. I guess you could argue this is somewhat a brand but not really. These celebrities are known for what they are good at. Not because they focused on some personal marketing or corporate rejected term like personal branding. I know personal brand fan boys and girls use those as examples as to whats possible. Pursuit of excellence in skills and talent Turned that into a image that could be profited How to Build your personal brand? Dont focus on building a personal brand. Focus on being great. Focus on being the best at what you do. Focus on being YOU. I have a feeling that if you do that the whole personal brand thing will take care of itself.

How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! How to file and register a trademark WITHOUT a lawyer!!!
http://vondranlegal.com/zip-counsel-affordable-trademark-legal-services/ YES YOU CAN SHARE THIS VIDEO ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA NETWORKS. MAKE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL! Attorney Steve does it again, this time with a helpful video for startup companies and individuals looking to register a federal trademark but who may not have the money to hire an intellectual property or trademark lawyer. This video is general legal information only and NOT legal advice or a substitute for legal advice. Trademark registration can be MUCH MORE COMPLEX than highlighted in this video. It is important to always do a thorough trademark search BEFORE applying for a trademark through the USPTO. Once you file, you cannot get your money back. So make sure there is no one else using your trademark before you apply. You can do this by searching the internet. Search for domain registrations that may be similar. Search on Google. You can Thomson Thomson to run a detailed paid search. You should also try to pick "arbitrary and fanciful" names as opposed to suggestive and descriptive terms. In other words "Nike" or "Xerox" are better names than "Sports Shoes Company" or "Copy Paper Inc." Be creative - think out of the box. Also, keep in mind there are many different things you can get a trademark (for goods) or service mark (for services) for. Examples are: 1. Your company logo 2. A slogan you use in your business 3. Nicknames (ex. "Johnny Football") 4. Your business name These are just a few of the common examples. At any rate, this video should help you understand what lawyers do when filing a trademark. This is the same process companies like LegalZoom do. So in short YOU CAN DO IT without a lawyer if you take time to read the screens, and watch some of their helpful videos the USPTO offers. If you need help and are willing to pay a LOW FLAT RATE FEE - we can help you. We can also help with the following: 1. Trademark name searches (we can help you pick a good mark to build your brand on) 2. Registering trademarks and service marks 3. Responding to office action letters (refusals or denials) from the trademark examiner 4. Cease and desist letters 5. Trademark arbitration, mediation, litigation 6. Domain name disputes For more information, call us at (877) 276-5084 or click on the link at the top of this page to go to our corporate homepage. As we like to say - we are The First Name In Legal Services" Hope you enjoyed this video!! Check out our others. Keep in mind there are RISKS associated with filing your own trademark with the USPTO (such as having to respond to an office action letter, or having your trademark denied when a good search would have prevented the filing), but many people are finding that filing a trademark application (for example to start your own clothing line, or a name of a band, or product name) is not as mysterious as people once thought. ATTORNEY STEVE TIP: Make sure you SEARCH your mark BEFORE you buy a domain name, engage in advertising, name your product etc. There is nothing worse than picking a name that some other company already has or which is "confusingly similar" to their name, This means your trademark will not register. This is the biggest risk of filing for your own trademark. Sometimes it is worth the money to just pay trademark counsel to search and file for your corporate trademark. We can do slogans, logos, and company names.

YOW! Data 2017 Gareth Jones - Image Recognition for Non-Experts #YOWData
Displaying an inappropriate ad on a website can be a major headache for an Ad network. Showing ads for a site’s major competitor, or ads in a category at odds with the site’s brand, for example, can cause embarrassment and lost revenue. With the selection of ads being largely algorithmic it can be hard to set up rules to make sure this doesn’t happen. You also don’t want your first awareness of the problem being a call from an angry CEO. This talk shows how we built a system that uses image recognition to detect Ad Breaches. Our first version makes use of Google’s Cloud Vision API. The Cloud Vision API is a pre-trained service that recognises many categories of objects from images, along with some text recognition. I’ll discuss how to use the Cloud Vision API in your applications, what it is good at, what it is not. I’ll then look at using transfer learning to improve our system’s ability to recognise Ad Breaches. I will look at how we can use the popular Tensorflow library to build our own image recognition model. Tensorflow comes with several pre-trained models for image recognition - using these I will show you how to build your own specialised image recognition models in a fraction of the time, and with a fraction of the input data, by re-using existing pre-trained layers from the best models out there. I’ll investigate whether we can train a model to detect potential ad breaches from a small set of examples. Gareth is a developer with 20 years experience. He lives in Melbourne, working on Big Data, Machine Learning, and other buzzwords. He maintains the popular(ish) node.js logging package log4js-node. For more information on YOW!
