Introduction to node-oracledb: the new Node.js driver for Oracle Database

01:00:53
Want to write highly scalable, event driven applications? Node.js lets you do just that. After a quick introduction to Node.js, this session dives into the features of node-oracledb, the new, open source Node.js driver for Oracle Database, which is under active development.
SQL Driver for JavaScript in Oracle Database

How to Hack Into Your Oracle Database via Node js Using SQL Injection

58:06
https://developer.oracle.com/code/online | Dan McGhan, Chris Saxon: Hackers are constantly searching for personal data they can use to exploit people. And they’re often successful. Each week brings new stories of large-scale data breaches. A common attack vector is SQL injection. If your application is vulnerable to this, hackers can get whatever they want from your database. This session shows you how easy it is to access private data with SQL injection and how to change your code to stop it. It ends with a discussion of further recommendations for writing secure code. This is a must-attend session for all developers who write database access code.

Oracle Database as Document Store & SODA QBEs

58:14
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) has become the dominant data exchange format of the 21st century. As of version 12.1, Oracle Database offers powerful, flexible features for storing and querying JSON documents. In this video we show how the Oracle Database can be operated as a document store and documents can be searched by 'Query by Example' expressions, where the query itself is written in JSON. QBE's are provided by the SODA (Simple Oracle Document Access) Api which is available for REST and Java. Build Web, Mobile, and Desktop Applications with Oracle JET, Oracle Cloud, and Electron

42:03
https://developer.oracle.com | Jerry Ward, Managing Partner, Viscosity North America. Erik Espinoza, Solutions Architect, Viscosity North America. You can now use a single framework and codebase to build your web, mobile, and desktop applications. Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit (Oracle JET) paired with Oracle Cloud Platform and DBaaS make it possible. This session demonstrates a timekeeping application written once but running as (1) a web application, (2) a native mobile application on iOS and Android using Apache Cordova, and (3) an offline desktop application using Electron (Chromium and Node.js). Not only is it faster and cheaper to build your applications with Oracle JET but also your apps will inherit the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) elements that so many are familiar with in Oracle’s other SaaS and PaS offerings. https://developer.oracle.com

What's Oracle doing with JavaScript?

16:46
(Recorded at Jfokus 2016. http://www.jfokus.com) What's Oracle doing with JavaScript? At JavaOne/OpenWorld 2015, Oracle announced that its own internal developers have been using JavaScript for several years to develop Cloud applications and that a toolkit built up out of open source solutions is being made available for general use. Data in the Cloud needs to be visualized in interesting and understandable ways, which is the key reason for the existence of Oracle JET (Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit). It provides JQuery UI components that make available graphs, charts, and similar components, on top of Require.js for modularity, Knockout.js for data binding, and more. The entire toolkit will be open sourced. Come to this code-driven session to find out what Oracle is doing with JavaScript and how you can leverage these solutions too! Geertjan Wielenga, Oracle Geertjan Wielenga lives in Amsterdam and works for Oracle on open source projects. He is an enterprise technology enthusiast, evangelist, trainer, speaker, and writer, primarily focused on new trends in Java and JavaScript, together with tooling provided by the NetBeans ecosystem. Making RESTful Web Services the Easy Way with Node.js

59:01
Dan McGhan, Developer Advocate, Oracle. Drivers make it easy to connect to and run statements against a database. That means they're perfect for creating RESTful APIs, right? Well, you'll want to add some pagination capabilities, maybe sorting controls, and some generic filtering options too. You could do all that with the driver and some smart code, but there must be an easier way, right? Of course there is! In this session you'll learn about some of the challenges associated with manual API creation using drivers. The discussion then turns to several tools that offer similar functionality out of the box, including Loopback, Sails, and Oracle REST Data Services. ================================= To improve the video quality, click the gear icon and set the Quality to 1080p/720p HD. Building Real time Data in Web Applications with Node.js

36:00
Dan Mcghan, Oracle Real-time data is an increasingly popular topic these days. The basic idea is simple: when data in the database changes, any clients viewing the data should see the changes immediately: in real-time. Gmail and Twitter are great examples of applications that make use of real-time data. Users don’t need to refresh the page to see new emails or tweets. Instead, new data is pushed to the clients when it becomes available. In this session attendees learn about some of the tools that make real-time applications easier than ever before, including Node.js and Socket.IO. Of course, the data must be pushed from somewhere, so we also explore the way that databases participate in this process.

From IoT to the Database: Soldering, REST Data with JavaScript and Python

54:04
If you're like me, you use way too much power & you’re not quite sure where. Tracking your power usage is a great start, but analyzing the data is often easiest when it's in a database. Typing it in by hand would be a pain; let's void a warranty instead! This will be a high level walk-through of building & modifying the learn.adafruit.com/tweet-a-watt project. You'll leave this session with the tools to track the data in your own projects & hopefully some new ideas. (But no electrical burns!) I started programming in 1995. For most of my career, I have used Oracle tools to build applications. I have worked with Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports and even created a framework to generate web applications using PL/SQL similar to Oracle Application Express. I have done a little Java, both inside and outside the database, and of course a whole bunch of SQL and PL/SQL. Several years ago, I got hooked on open source and went exploring. I wrote a tiny bit of Perl, explored using Solr and Elastic Search as a database for small projects, wrote even more Java, built a project with Ruby for a small Autism center, and most lately got all excited about JavaScript. My combined experience with Oracle Database and open source led me to a brand-new position at Oracle: Oracle Developer Advocate for Open Source. I help our users figure out how to take full advantage of Oracle Database technologies from open source tools. I promote the use of open source inside and outside of Oracle. https://developer.oracle.com/ https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit

Database as API with PostgreSQL and Massive.js - Dian Fay

49:24
Node.js has been around for a while, and it's not showing any signs of slowing down yet. More and more developers are using JavaScript on the server, and PostgreSQL is a popular choice for applications with relational data needs. But what does data access look like in a dynamic language running on a single-threaded platform? Do purely object-oriented architectures and techniques still make sense in a language with an expressive functional toolkit and few compunctions about type safety? How does closer integration with the database change application development? This talk looks at the theoretical and practical sides of Massive.js, a Postgres-exclusive data mapper for Node, and at how Node applications can get the most out of their data by moving past the conventional wisdom of object-oriented and object-relational approaches to leverage Postgres to the fullest possible extent. jQuery in APEX - An Introduction for Database Developers

09:45
Learn to incorporate jQuery in APEX applications! Oracle Application Express developers often have strong backgrounds in SQL and PL/SQL, but JavaScript is another story. However, JavaScript is a very important part of any well-built Web 2.0 application. Luckily JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, which is integrated into APEX, have made the language much easier to use. In this session, explore JavaScript through a series of analogies, 9 in total, which will relate important concepts in the library back to what you already know in the database world.
