Puberty in Girls: Getting Your Period

02:27
During puberty, girls begin to get their menstrual periods. Menstrual periods are when a small amount of blood and tissue leave the body through the vagina over the course of a few days. It happens about once every month, and can last between a couple of days and a week. Some girls have cramps during their periods while others don’t. Using a maxi pad, tampon or feminine hygiene cup is a common way to manage the blood that leaves the body during a period. When a girl gets her first period it signals that her body has begun ovulating and that if she has unprotected sex, she could become pregnant. Why?! Once a month a hormone in the girl’s brain signals her ovaries to release an egg or ovum. This is called ovulation. The hormone estrogen is also released to signal the girl’s uterus to build up its lining in case the egg is fertilized by a sperm (called fertilization) during sex. If an egg is not fertilized within 12 -24 hour after ovulation, the egg dies and disintegrates. Two weeks later, when the uterus realizes there is no fertilized egg, the “extra” lining of the uterus is released or shed during a girl’s menstrual period. -------- Please like, share and subscribe to AMAZE for new videos every other Thursday! Really weird video about puberty at the Tianjin Science and Technology Museum. I'm not exactly sure what the message is supposed to be? That your body will transform in terrifying, painful, Hulk-ish ways, but in the end, once you're fully mature, the wall between you and the opposite sex will disappear?

Ages & Stages of Puberty for Girls | Puberty

01:52
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499539-Ages-and-Stages-of-Puberty-for-Girls-Puberty So, you're changing for gym class, and you notice that everyone around you is wearing training bras, but you're not and you're feeling kind of embarassed. Or, you go to a sleepover party and all the girls are talking about how relieved they are that they don't have pubic hair yet, but you've already started developing it and you're feeling embarassed, too. Puberty is a time of change. And a lot of stuff is going on in your body and it occurs at all different times for different people and it's all normal. I promise you something. Even if you start later or earlier, everyone is eventually going to catch up. So there's no need to feel embarassed or upset about what's going on. It's all a normal part of the process. Here's a look at what's going on during puberty if you're a girl. One of the first stages is that your breasts start to develop, and that occurs around the age of eight or ten. But, of course, it can occur earlier or later for some girls. The next thing that happens is you'll notice some pubic hair, and that's hair in your genital region that will start off sort of thin and soft at first and may get dark and curlier as you get older. The next thing is that you experience a growth spurt. And for girls, you may sprout up a few inches, you may gain a little weight, and you may notice that your body is becoming a bit curvier. All of this is normal. About two to two and a half years after your breasts start to develop you may get your first period. And that's when you start to bleed every month and that's a normal part of puberty also. Different changes that can occur after that are hair growth. You may notice the hair on your legs or your arms getting darker or thicker. Totally normal. Also, hair may start to grow underneath your armpits. This is normal, too. In addition, you might develop oily hair and a little bit of acne. That is a normal part of puberty, too. Just remember, we've all been through this, too. And you will make it through and become a happy and healthy woman.

PUBERTY TALK!!? 😢😳😍 | Scott and Camber

11:07
It is happening!! Puberty!!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Jk, we are ready. Makaya watched the puberty video in school this week, so Camber and I are ready to have the puberty talk with her. We are actually kind of excited for her. Puberty is definitely an awkward stage of life, but it is also a very neat transition from childhood to the teenage years. I am not quite ready to discuss pregnancy, the birds and bees or periods, but our kids need to know and we need to be the ones to teach them. This video may come across kind of silly or that we think it is a matter to joke about, but just know that we take the subject very seriously and are ready to have serious conversations with our children. Emotional Changes Girls Experience | Puberty

02:02
Watch more How to Survive Puberty videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/499533-Emotional-Changes-Girls-Experience-Puberty Okay, so you're really upset one minute at your mom, and then you go to the Taylor Swift concert with your girlfriend, and you're having the time of your life. You get home, your brother said something the wrong way, and you scream at him. What is going on here, you wonder. You are experiencing mood swings, which are such a normal part of puberty I can't even tell you, everybody goes through them. One minute you're happy, one minute you're upset, one minute you're crying, one minute you're laughing; it's all normal. And the reason is, all the hormones that are responsible for those physical changes that are going on in your body, are also making changes in your mind and emotions, and the hormones fluctuate and go up and down, and your moods go up and down accordingly. All of this is normal and nothing to worry about. What can be concerning is, you may want to figure out ways to deal with it, so your moods don't get the better of you. The first thing I recommend is talking to somebody that you trust. You can talk to your parents. If you're not comfortable doing that, you can talk to a best friend, you can talk to a coach, a guidance counselor, your doctor, just talk about things that are bothering you, getting something off your chest tends to really help. And also, try not to react immediately. Your poor little brother, if you just yelled at him immediately, take a second, count backwards from ten if you need to. If you don't react immediately you'll find that you can probably make a more level-headed response. The next I'm going to recommend is getting enough sleep. You need roughly eight to ten hours of sleep at your age, and you're probably not getting them if you're burning the candles at both ends and having so many activities. Try to schedule a time for sleep, it definitely helps regulate your mood swings. The other thing is to exercise, and I can't express how important this is. 30 minutes of exercise a day will definitely help level out your moods, and make those mood swings less up and down. The last thing I want to mention is you need to find ways to relax, ways that work for you, whether it's taking your cell phone for a walk, whether it's doing yoga, whether it's watching a television show that makes you laugh, find something that's relaxing. Spend a few minutes each day on something just for you, so that you can level out your mood swings and get through puberty just like everyone else. You're on your way.

Daughters & Puberty Talk

15:50
Our children grow so fast. One day they’re babies and next day they’re going through puberty. This video is about preparing your daughter to go through puberty in a peaceful and healthy way. You have to start early. The first thing you have to do is start at the age of four, telling your daughters about the difference between girls and boys, anatomically speaking. So, how boys look like and how girls look like on the outside and that they are different body wise. Later on the girl will find out on her own that she is different because she likes to play with dolls perhaps and boys like to play with cars and trains. So she will start to notice the difference between her and boys. In that meantime it’s very important to make her think and feel that she is equal to the boy, in the sense that they’re two equal human beings, she’s not weaker or she’s not less intelligent. You always have to be careful with making your daughter understand that she’s just as good as a boy. In some cultures this is a very big problem because they make their daughters feel that they are weaker and less, and that affects the girls throughout their lives. You also have to start gradually to tell your daughter about her body as she approaches the puberty, that you tell her that things are going to change in your body. You have to pick the good times to talk to your daughter, so, if she’s not interested or if she’s embarrassed or too shy or she pulls away and she doesn’t want to talk about it, please respect her feelings. So, every time you get the chance to talk to her about a piece of information about her body, pick the right time. For example when you’re together in the car driving, this is a good moment because you’re not looking her in the eyes and so she’s not that embarrassed. And you go and just driving and enjoying the way and talking about maybe embarrassing things. While cooking you will have to stress with your daughter on the fact that she needs healthy food and encourage her to understand the relation between eating healthy and looking healthy. Also, if you’re watching movies together, you can explain your opinions about life and morals and love, via commenting on the people or the characters in the film. So, you will be watching a love story and you will explain the good thing about love and the bad things about sexuality or the good things about it. So you can tell her, convey the message to her, via your comments on the characters in the movie. Puberty has many aspects of development. Not only physical, but also emotional and social. Don’t forget to prepare your child for the emotional and social aspects, as well as the physical, of course. Always #LikeAGirl

03:19
Join Always in our epic battle to keep girls' confidence high during puberty and beyond. Using #LikeAGirl as an insult is a hard knock against any adolescent girl. And since the rest of puberty's really no picnic either, it's easy to see what a huge impact it can have on a girl's self-confidence. Making a start by showing them that doing things #LikeAGirl is an awesome thing! "In my work as a documentarian, I have witnessed the confidence crisis among girls and the negative impact of stereotypes first-hand," said Lauren Greenfield, filmmaker and director of the #LikeAGirl video. "When the words 'like a girl' are used to mean something bad, it is profoundly disempowering. I am proud to partner with Always to shed light on how this simple phrase can have a significant and long-lasting impact on girls and women. I am excited to be a part of the movement to redefine 'like a girl' into a positive affirmation." So tell us... what do YOU do #LikeAGirl? For the past 30 years, Always has been empowering girls globally, bringing puberty education to millions of adolescent girls.
