I have heard that wall sits can be better because squats put stress onto your knees, especially if you have improper form. 10 MINUTE WALL SIT || Weekly challenge #4
THIS WEEKS CHALLENGE... Don't worry, it's not a 10 minute wall sit all at once. You need to wall sit for 1 minute at a time, or as long as you can manage up to 1 minute. BUT!... Before an attempt at ANY wall sit, you have to first perform 20 standing Calve raises followed by 10 jump squats.For example, this means, if you can only wall sit for 30 seconds, you can't attempt the rest of your 1 minute without first performing the Calve raises & jump squats again! RULES: You must perform a minimum of 2 minutes of wall sits at a time. This must be done 5 times a week in order to reach the target of 10 minutes. You may choose to do more than the 2 minutes in one go, BUT, you can't wall sit for longer than 1 minute at a time, and you can only make attempts in 2's (2 minutes, 4 minutes etc.) GOOD LUCK Any questions, just drop me a comment below! Funny Superhuman Must-See Longest Wall Sit Guinness World Record- 12 hours!
Dr. Thienna has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the "Longest Samson's Chair (Static Wall Sit)'. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Dr. Thienna Ho, founder of Thienna, Inc., a skin care company that focuses on health, is no stranger to setting world records. She is the current Guinness World Records' holder for the most sumo squats in one hour. And, on Saturday, December 20, she completed yet another world record - the longest wall sit. Dr. Thienna's record-setting time was 11 hours, 51 minutes, and 14 seconds; the event took place at World Team USA Gymnasium in San Francisco. The former Guinness World Records' holder for the longest wall sit was Rajkumar Chakraborty at 11 hours and five minutes; this record was set at Panposh Sports Hostel, Rourkela, India, on April 22, 1994. Dr. Thienna was inspired to set this record in honor of her mother, who passed away from dermatomyosis, an autoimmune disease, after three years of struggle. "My mother was confined to her bed for almost three years," Dr. Thienna says. "I remember her telling me that she would often dream of going outside to walk around. What better way to honor her memory than by dedicating a physical feat of this capacity to her?" Dr. Thienna explains that while the wall sit was a great physical challenge, the process of not being able to move for almost 12 hours was even greater. "I now have a better understanding of what my mother went through in the sense of being confined. I could not have been confined for three years like she was," Dr. Thienna says. During the record-setting experience, approximately seven hours into the wall sit, a few blisters appeared on Dr. Thienna's feet. The skin on her back also started to burn from moving up and down on the wall. All in all, she felt she was quite lucky and the pain was minimal. "Maybe I'm resistant to lactic-acid buildup; I don't know," she says, "but, I do know that I had no knee, joint or back pain." An hour away from breaking the record, Dr. Thienna explains that her body felt like it was falling asleep or even somewhat paralyzed from the waist down. "My mother was my inspiration and I could feel her cheering me on the whole time," Dr. Thienna adds. "I am so glad I was able to set this record and appreciate all the support I received from friends and family." She is now certified by the Guinness World Records. Wall Sits | Push Through The Pain
Holding a wall sit is a great way to build muscle in your legs (especially in your quads). The deeper you go into the wall sit, the more difficult it is. Make sure that your knees are directly over your ankles, not over your toes. Set the timer on your phone for 30 seconds, turn on some music, & let it burn. If it's very painful, only squat down a few inches. You can build up your strength & set a goal to eventually hold it longer. If you're a beginner, try 3 sets of 30 second wall sits. (be sure to take breaks in between sets). If you are really trying to push yourself, do as many sets as it takes to reach muscle fatigue! Aim high! Set a goal for 5-7 sets of 30 second wall sits.

If you want to strengthen your thighs, you can target several muscle groups simultaneously with wall sits. In this exercise you strengthen two major muscle groups in the thigh. Quadriceps Wall sits work the quadriceps located on the front of your thighs. Strength in the quadriceps is necessary for such day-to-day activities as walking and rising from a seated position. Hamstrings The hamstrings, located on the back of your thighs, work opposite the quadriceps. These three muscles bend the knee and extend the hip joint. Strengthening the hamstrings with exercises like wall sits has practical applications because these muscles are necessary for basic movements such as walking. Benefits A wall sit exercise works the entire muscular system of the lower body. The quadriceps and buttocks work to hold the body in place. Since this is an isometric exercise, the endurance in the lower body muscles improves the longer you hold the position. The wall sit exercise improves performance in running, skiing and any sport involving jumping. Practicing this exercise makes it easier to get up and down off the floor and to use the leg muscles to lift heavy objects. Precautions While the wall sit puts less stress on the knees, hips and back, you still want to use caution when performing the exercise. Slide down the wall as far as you feel comfortable. If you experience pain, STOP! Be sure to keep your weight off your toes. This prevents you from adding stress to your knees.
