War on Boys

171516 ratings | 7019610 views
What ever happened to letting "boys be boys?" Take these two cases: In one, a seven-year-old boy was sent home for nibbling a Pop Tart into a gun. In another, a teacher was so alarmed by a picture drawn by a student (of a sword fight), that the boy's parents were summoned in for a conference. In short, boys in America's schools are routinely punished for being active, competitive, and restless. In other words, boys can no longer be boys. Christina Hoff Sommers, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, explains how we can change this. Donate today to PragerU! http://l.prageru.com/2ylo1Yt Joining PragerU is free! Boys tend to be disorganized and restless. Some have even been known to be noisy and hard to manage. Sound like any boy you know? But increasingly, our schools have little patience for what only a couple of decades ago would have been described as “boyishness.” As psychologist Michael Thompson has aptly observed: “Girls behavior is the gold standard in schools. Boys are treated like defective girls.” As a result, these “defective girls” are not faring well academically. Compared with girls, boys earn lower grades, win fewer honors they’re are far less likely to go to college. Boys are languishing academically, while girls are prospering. In an ever more knowledge-based economy, this is not a recipe for a successful society. We need to start thinking about how we can make our grade school classrooms more boy-friendly. Well, here are four reforms that would make a very good start. 1. Turn boys into readers. In all age groups, across all ethnic lines, boys score lower than girls on national reading tests. Good reading skills -- need I say? -- are critical to academic and workplace success. A major study in the UK discovered, not surprisingly, that girls prefer fiction, magazines, and poetry while boys prefer comics and non-fiction. Boys whose eyes glaze over if forced to read Little House on the Prairie may be riveted by the Guinness Book of Records. Boys will read if given materials that interest them. If you’re looking for suggestions for books that have proved irresistible to boys go to guysread.com. 2. Inspire the male imagination. Celebrated writing instructor Ralph Fletcher contends that too many teachers take what is called “the confessional poet” as the classroom ideal. Personal narratives full of emotions and self-disclosure -- these are stories girls commonly write -- and these are prized; whereas action stories describing, say, a skateboard competition or a monster devouring a city, these are not. I recently read about a third-grader in Southern California named Justin who loved science-fiction, pirates, and battles. An alarmed teacher summoned his parents to school to discuss the picture the 8-year-old had drawn of a sword fight -- which included several decapitated heads. The teacher expressed grave “concern” about Justin’s “values.” The boy’s father was astonished, not by his son’s drawing which to him was typical boy stuff, but by the teacher’s overwrought -- and female-centered -- reaction. If boys are constantly subject to disapproval for their interests and enthusiasms they are likely to become disengaged and lag further behind. Our schools need to work with, not against, the kinetic imaginations of boys. For the complete script, visit https://www.prageru.com/videos/war-boys

Yes make sure men work hard and are successful so that your daughters will have someone to marry. The problem is no respectable man would get married in this day and age as he will almost certainly get cucked and / or divorce raped. MGTOW is the future for all men when they see what is happening to the current generation. Paternity fraud and divorce rape are so widespread but family courts put gag orders on men and politicians are opposing mandatory DNA testing for paternity at birth because they know studies have shown 13-17% of people in UK and Germany have a different father to the one they think is their father. France even banned paternity testing under the reason of "preserve the family peace" because they don't want to deal with widespread fallout paternity testing would cause!

I can totally relate on a personal level. My school is one messed up place. Almost all of my teachers were passively misandrist (except for my outright sexist science teacher who is known for being a chivalrous Amy Schumer) and have been know to say things like "there was a man with a pole in the back to whack the heads of unruly boys. we should still be doing that" and "you'll need to be good looking. so we can rule out most of the boys". The first few times I wanted to cause someone an injury, but I eventually got used to it. But the crown jewel on this tiara of evil was cut, polished, and set in the beginning of my 2nd quarter in 8th grade. One time my choir teacher, who cannot lead a class worth a plug nickel, got mad at us because some people were being rambunctious, because it was after lunch where we don’t have recess (our choir classes are gender-separated) and reported us to our other teachers. So they got very mad because we were apparently “harassing a fellow teacher”. So whenever we entered a new class, the teacher would yell at us, threaten us, and disgustingly overstate what happened in front of all the girls. So counterintuitively they made us skip PE (the only form of activity we got in school) to attend a co-Ed class with the girls. Now, I LOVE co-Ed classes most of the time but this class was different. The teachers took an opportunity to blame any noise that happened on us gents as we were forced to stand there perfectly still as our teacher made us sing songs she never taught. The class also had a detention system that, you guessed it, was only for the males. Fortunately we rarely got detention. Btw 4:25 red rover i understand, the only time I played it I got a concussion. and sorry about my atrocious grammar

I am currently in the midst of a career change. I'm working on a degree in Social Science and minoring in Education. There is an absolute war against men and boys. One chapter I've read this semester actually says teaching is indoctrination. They shove white/male privilege down your throat and preach equity that truly doesn't exist.

* A person talks in class * Female teacher: Georgi (George)/ Vladimir/ Dimitar shut up! {All are boys} [BUT IT ACTUALLY WAS GIRLS TALKING] Male teacher: Who is talking?! Other example: Me and my cousin rightfully stand in front of the roll. Same female teacher: Boys go at the back, let the girls be at the front

I love reading, I think reading is a form of media that will be everlasting. But the books we have to read today are, in my opinion, books that girls would love to read, yet when I ask them, "Would you rather read the lord of the rings, or little house on the prairie" to female classmates, most of them say lord of the rings. Even books that normally girls would love to read are being chosen over books like lord of the rings and Unbroken. Right now in Language Arts, the class is reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, one of the most god awful and tedious books I have to read. I have never been more jaded by a book than Huckleberry Finn, why? It's a civil war era setting, THAT SHOULD BE INTERESTING, but still I find myself only reading at most 3-5 pages before getting bored. Now let's take a look at Fahrenheit 451. Honestly I couldn't get enough of that story, I wished it got a second book continuing the story. Even though nothing exciting happens in the book until the last third, but the events leading up to it told the story. A firefighter steals books from homes that he's supposed to burn down, even when books are illegal, just by that sentence alone, people should be interested. But with Huckleberry Finn, the only summary of the plot is, "there's a boy named Huck, and he travels with an escaped slave, and they have somewhat adventures". That's all I could gather, because there's too much internal conflict, and once in a while a small external conflict, but how about we tell you about this internal conflict Huck goes on with for THE ENTIRE STORY SO MANY TIMES THAT YOU LOSE COUNT. I honestly hope that they put well rounded books into our education system, and not these tedious books that are a complete waste of time.

I loved drawing in school. I specifically liked drawing guns and firefights. until my 5th grade teacher pulled me aside and threatened to expel me. In the 4th grade I was in a after school program and we were playing with Legos, I made a gun out of the Legos, as soon as one of the teachers noticed she destroyed it right in front of me without saying a thing but "you can't do that".

This isn’t a war on boys. This is a war on children. Stop forcing gender roles on kids and let them enjoy whatever they want regardless of their gender. We don’t need to punish kids for having an imagination. The issue isn’t exclusive to boys at all. Stop pretending that only boys are discriminated against at school and quit putting kids in a box
Matt Blaise (14 hours ago)
....Right. Stop pretending feminism caused more good than harm.

I would have rather read through a hunting magazine in school than The great Gatsby. I guess that's why I spent most of my time reading Halo books than the stuff we were told to read. Schools nowadays only care about certain aspects. They brush history aside in favor of science and politics. If we do not learn from our past, we doom our future.

Back in my elementary school we weren't aloud to touch each other, but we still play games with guns, like (I was in texas) we just finish learning about the Mexico Texas war and all we did for that year was play the alamo, each day we pick our sides, and sometimes the entire yard was a war zone. Like I'm not lieing, every kid was on one side or the other. It was the best!

Maybe it's because I live in France, but it seems to me that teachers were stricter back then, with corporal punishment for students who don't follow the rules. And now, this video explain that back then, we let the child less supervised and now they're oppressed? Moreover, what about the boys who were bullied by the cool guys? Seems they Don't define there boyishness as being turbulent and competitive. In fact, it's more because they weren't that they were targeted by bullies. At end, feminism is not for superiority of women amongst men, but their equality. Some poeple perverted the feminist fight into a sex/gender war. Fighting them by strengthening stereotypes like the one in this video is only reloading their guns. So just throw this shit at its righteous place, the garbage. Because asides for biology, women and men could be as bitch or as wise as the other side

My kids school invited mums to fathers day this year if they where the only parent. I thought fair enough.so I asked if dad's where allowed to go to the mother's day one and she looked at me and laughed. So I gathered my son and left. Even my son said it wasn't fair that dad's are excluded.some how I just want to protect him from the evils of feminism but it's everywhere. No wonder boys are growing up confused and frustrated.and people wonder why men lash out. It's because we have had a fucken enough.if some feminist gets in my face im liable to knock her out.

Angelita Ellison (9 days ago)
I have a son. Most of the things she mentioned are not specific to boys or point to some anti boy conspiracy. Her logic is based on sterotypes and not facts. The problem is not educational institutions against boys, it is a general intolerance to normal child behavior and folks being to quick to label kids with ADHD. As a parent, I would also be concerned if my child was drawing decapitated bodies. I'd wonder where a 7 yeat old was seeing things like that.
Lightning Lantz (9 days ago)
Maybe this is why I hated my art classes in the past, I was so restricted with set policies and when I went against them, my teacher's response was "Meh, it's alright." Meanwhile a girl in the same class went against the standards of the project and she was praised. Flawed school system if you ask me.

Human Error (9 days ago)
Men and women are built slightly different and our society puts more complexity on to that, now we're told to be ourselves but when I wanted to do "boy" things like be a ninja or a superhero I was told that's too violent, they take away time needed to get energy out of kids, and they even take the activities they would do during this time to "protect self esteem" but idk if y'all was paying attention but the second they tried to "protect us" more kids got depressed and more schools got shot up so why r we moving backwards when everything was ok, the one size fits all doesn't = equality it creates stress because it's done in a terrible way and this video sums it up, they want women, or at least over feminzed men because they have notion of us being too rowdy and physical to be intelligent
Human Error (9 days ago)
Which makes no sense, no matter who you are as long as your human you can be smart, I feel like am I a very educated person, especially being 17 and I admit I am I loud destructive person sometimes, my bus gets rowdy asf and I can be quick to fight ppl, I am a young human male these things happen they always have and always will but I'm smart, I read, I think about history and human evolution, when has being a man become the same as being the villian, and why is it that a false image of being is woman is presented by these ppl

I mean I don't know honestly I don't think it's a "war on boys". I mean I don't know what years you are talking about but never did I ever feel like what I did at school was 'feminine interest'. I read war fictions in primary school, then various classics in middle school and High school. Though I have noticed that girls are often more successful academically in high school (the ones I know), I don't really see how it's a war on boys. I mean, sure boys do get sent to detention for ridiculous shit, but I've seen that happen to tons of girls. And I live in "soyboy, feminist" France. But at least the video was not extreme.
