At least his doing something about it. Unlike some of us sitting here doing nothing to help in our own little ways. Complaining about micro-plastics, animals getting stuck and hurt, capturing enough plastics, ... Jesus Christ!

Once again the industrialized countries have to fix a problem created mostly by 3rd world filth, that do nothing except breed and contribute to over populating.

It could operate in tandem with a factory ship that could collect the plastic and process into fuel and commodities on the spot.

Ten cents for every piece of plastic fished out of the ocean. Then you'd have trawlers going out plastic fishing. Could also give fishermen alternative employment, thus allowing fish stocks to replenish.

First we needa stop making plastic and start using reusable products because no matter how much you can the ocean it won’t stop until you get to the root of the problem and that’s the huge corporations that make plastic etc

Not enough like buttons to tap, amazing young man good to see some one shaming the world with his I'm not waiting for oceans to die before any one does anything, deserves a Nobel prize
Boat? I'm very curious to what boat is used to pick up the plastic and how

only 6 trillion plastic particles to remove, but why bother when humans dump 8 million metric tons more annually???? this makes as much sense as sweeping the entire sahara desert when you know a sandstorm is coming... better idea, PREVENT plastic going into the ocean in the first place????

A boat with a dredger that empties into a huge net behind it would be far more effective. This thing is unpredictable, totally hit and miss where the plastic is at. However if it worked it would not be reliant on further human resources. Releasing a couple hundred of these may do the trick but personally i think it is flawed. Props to the inventor for trying. Its the likes of cocs cola and pepsi who should be paying for the cleanup
Valdus (7 months ago)
This isn't the smartest idea as like 90 percent of all plastic in the ocean sinks..

Great idea but couldnt clean up boats just go directly to the garbages patches and start cleaning it to start!? Then as most of the garbage patches removed deploy these systems as well to maintain.

How will the planet be so much "cleaner" if we are just gonna burn most of the trash (other than just the recyclable plastic)
Don Cheadle (10 months ago)

No Waste Nikki (10 months ago)
I hate to disagree with people, but in the video it says a step closer to a cleaner planet which is only kinda true. The waste being taken out of the ocean is incredible but you have to remember the waste has to go somewhere. While the ocean clean up is going to sort through the waste and recycle it into new things, this shouldn’t be a safety net to allow people to just throw whatever they want away. If you want to help, think about what your buying and try to reduce your single use plastics!!! Recycling is good but eliminate waste such as disposable straws or utensils. Every little thing helps and remember we all live on this planet so this effects everyone in some way or another.

THIS IS AN AMAZING IDEA. Now how about we stop using plastics and demand companies to start using cleaner materials like hemp or bpa free plastics. Because if the government won't regulate it enough the the market (society) will. Together we can accomplish anything.

I have a better idea, THERES NO PLASTIC UN THE OCEAN. There might be some but as a boat owner, I haven’t spotted a single plastic bag floating in the ocean. The government is just figuring out more ways to tax its people and that’s a fact. Go out there, look no trash
